An important aspect of getting your website to feature on the first page of a search engine’s result page involves careful placement of your chosen keywords within your website.

Although there is debate over the actual impact that the placement of keywords in some of the below areas has on a website’s search performance, from my experience they all have a positive impact and will help your website’s performance.

• Title Tag (6%)

• First words of Title Tag (6%)

• Root Domain (e.g. www.mydomain.com) (6%)

• H1 Headline Tag (5%)

• Page text 3 times (5%)

• Domain Name (5%) 

• Internal Link Anchor (4%)

• External Link Anchor (4%)

• H2 and below Tags (3%)

• Image Alt Tags (3%)

• Image File Name (3%)

• Bold and Strong Tags (2%)

• Meta Description (2%)

Please note that there will be slight variations in the weightings which are dependent up on the industry you operate in and what algorithms are being used by a search engine at a particular time; but in the long-term they will have a positive influence on where your website appears.
